What does Geniuslink have in common with Amazon, Ben & Jerry’s, Etsy, Google, Procter & Gamble, and Wieden & Kennedy?
Dogs have become a staple in the offices of many companies around the world, following a trend that has been proven to reduce office stress, increase physical health, and enforce a positive workplace.
At Geniuslink, our office dogs do just that. Walk into the office on any given morning or afternoon and you’ll be warmly greeted as furry paws skate across the floor, tails wag and wet noses rush to meet your hands.
Our CEO, Jesse Lakes, firmly believes that our dogs are some of our most valuable teammates! He’s found that dog walks are one of the best ways for him and the co-founders to get out of the office and have strategic conversations. The dogs also foster an awesome way to have manager to employee one-on-ones.
We’re going to be biased for a moment and say that our office dogs are a 15 out of 10.
Meet Moxie, Jack, and Daisy (In descending order.)
And Bob, our remote office dog!
Here are 7 reasons the Geniuslink team thinks office dogs are the best.
1. They help us stay focused.
A 2012 study from Virginia Commonwealth University found that employees felt less stressed when dogs were present in their workspace. The same goes for our team. Being less stressed equates to being more relaxed which improves our ability to focus and remain focused, ultimately increasing our overall productivity.
2. They remind us to smile through the good…
…And the bad (even if you cut your paws up on some gravel because you just don’t know when to quit when it comes to playing fetch…)
But in all seriousness, our dogs serve as a positive influence on the team’s overall attitude and mindset. Whether it’s a good day or a bad day, they put things in perspective and remind us not to take ourselves too seriously.
3. Their encouragement and support are unparalleled, even when it comes to in-house furniture assembly.
Whether we’re putting together desk drawers or writing complex code, they’re always right there to cheer us on.
4. They keep us active and moving.
Big lunch? Need to get your daily steps in? Don’t worry they make sure to get us out of our chairs regularly throughout the workday. Who needs a Fitbit when you have Daisy to remind you to take your fresh air and exercise break?
5. They remind us to work hard and play even harder…
They give us an opportunity, and in some cases, force us to take a much needed mental break in the midst of a stressful day.
6. …And they remind us that a little R&R is sometimes necessary.
…Okay, maybe a lot of R&R.
Rest is important to stay at the top of your game and our dogs definitely get a lot of it around here in between walks.
7. Most importantly, they remind us that no matter what, you can always get by with a little help from your friends.
No matter how hectic the workday or the workweek gets, they remind us that we’re a team – all for one and one for all.
The Geniuslink team wouldn’t be complete without our four-legged friends! Happy “Take Your Dog to Work Day” everyone!
