As an App Developer, you have a lot to keep track of between squashing bugs, managing SDKs, and scheming up new features. This probably means the last thing that you’ll want to spend your precious time on is learning about affiliate marketing, worrying about your links to the App Store, or setting up another service.
“If you’re having people click links, they may as well be affiliated.”
How One Game Developer Combined GeoRiot and AskingPoint… And Saw a commission increase of 4x.
CJ de Heer began developing mobile apps for his company, Surf City Games, in 2013. Having learned about GeoRiot, an affiliate link globalizing service, earlier that year, he released his first apps, (two free games by the name of Monster Prison Break, and Fairy Pop) with a “Tweet For Coins” social feature built around GeoRiot links.
The idea behind this was to engage players at levels throughout the game by prompting them with pre-written tweets that included georiot.co affiliate links. Players who posted to their social networks would then receive 200 bonus coins for use during game play. While these individual games didn’t garner an overwhelming amount of affiliate traffic, he did learn to use GeoRiot to leverage his in-app traffic and serve as a secondary line of revenue, and take advantage of the detailed click reporting they provided.
App Discovery Platforms
App discovery and app review platforms are a crucial resource in the daunting task of trying to pick out the gems from the overwhelming number of apps in the multiple app stores. These services come in many shapes and sizes and provide a depth of information just not found in Apple’s App Store, Google Play Store and Amazon’s Appstore for Android. Unfortunately, many of these great services are completely reliant on sustaining themselves with banner ads.
Our CEO / Co-Founder Jesse Lakes recently sat down with ContractIQ founder Ashwin Ramasamy to share his expertise on app monetization best practices within the Apple’s affiliate program.
Topics discussed include the basics of affiliation, monetization across multiple affiliate programs, how the programs impact a user’s experience, using the program to gain insight into user behavior, and managing multiple programs across several countries simultaneously.
ContractIQ has made a name for themselves by showcasing and writing about some of the most interesting mobile development companies around. We’re flattered to have caught their eye and had a great time working with them. Thanks to Ashwin and the crew at Contract IQ for a great interview!
It’s October 1st! Say hello to Q4, changing seasons, and PHG.
As of today, iTunes has completely replaced the DGM and LinkShare affiliate networks with the PHG affiliate platform. To coincide with this, all LinkShare and DGM affiliate parameters have also been disabled inside the GeoRiot system (because, as of today, they are unfortunately worthless).
