Affiliate Profiles

Our interview with Farasat Khan

Who are you and what are you currently working on?

Hey, I am Muhammad Farasat Khan and I have primarily worked with a lot of affiliate models but Amazon. Currently, I am working on It provides free resources that offer WordPress tutorials, product comparisons and others which helps in creating a better website.

I am always eager to venture into new affiliate platforms to leverage competitive advantage later.

How did you get started in affiliate marketing? What keeps you excited about it?

I was first exposed to affiliate marketing when I started working for a company that had multiple projects in different niches. It is also the place where I first learned about Search Engine Optimization. After which I invested my time in learning basic web development skills and kick start my own affiliate website.

Since affiliate marketing does not incur high upfront costs, I feel it has zero barriers to entry. This really keeps me motivated in continuing and exploring different niches and platforms.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to a newbie affiliate marketer? And what is one piece of advice they should ignore?

Affiliate marketing is highly based on Search Engine Optimization. Therefore if you are starting out as an affiliate marketer make sure you start learning the techniques and skills used for optimization. Similar to other business models, affiliate marketing requires patience to drive results. I highly suggest a newbie to have patience with results and don’t give up too early.

What has been your favorite mistake? A mistake that in retrospect led to a great lesson and progress in your affiliate marketing?

Earlier when I was starting out with my company, I was rushing to drive results and revenue. Being an SEO you are always tight on budget and time, and so were I, hence I encountered a low-quality PBN network to improve the results.

Well, a lot of well-learned SEO gurus will say it is against Google’s guidelines, but there is a lot that is against the guidelines but still works. Hence I generated a sum of around 143 links from that PBN within 2 days, which was a disaster. It was back in January 2017 and then came the Penguin Tweak in February 2017.

The site rankings disappeared in no more than 5 days and even received a manual penalty from Google.

The learning was pretty clear that don’t rush for a short term solution as SEO is a solid strategy and requires both investment and time.

What is one piece of software or a web service that allows you to be more effective as an affiliate marketer?

As an affiliate marketer, I have hands-on experience with lots of tools. But lately, Ahrefs has been the Swiss Army knife for SEO.

Their database is huge and is constantly updated. It not only helps me keep an eye on my efforts but also allows me to research my competitors very efficiently.

How do you continue to educate yourself as an affiliate marketer? What are some of your favorite resources for learning?

In this field self-learning the best mode of learning. I accompany my self-learning with none other than Brian Dean’s Backlinko blog, Ahref’s blog and keep a close eye on BigSEO Reddit community. And also to keep an eye on growing niches. I keep an eye on NicheHacks which is considered to be the Wiki of Online Marketing.

I highly suggest reading case studies provided by Brian, as they are very well sought and backed by actionable data.

If people wanted to connect with you, where should we point them to?
