We’re excited to announce our little startup is a year older today, turning the ripe old age of four. It’s been an incredible journey so far, so we wanted to take a step back and reflect.
GeoRiot started as a side project for another website that Co-Founder and CEO Jesse Lakes was running with the help of his college roommate, CTO / Co-Founder Jesse Pasichnyk. Their site utilized the Affiliate Program for sending traffic to purchase the music found in surf, ski and snowboard films and Lakes realized that they weren’t making commissions off of international traffic (only seeing money come through in the US) and dove in to figure out why this was. The rest, as they say, is history.
At the time of GeoRiot’s inception in early February of 2009, there were only 19 iTunes Affiliate Programs, which required five unique sets of affiliate parameters for the different networks and programs that handled each region (LinkShare US, LinkShare CA, LinkShare JP, Tradedoubler, DGM).
The service launched publically in early 2010 and by June, GeoRiot saw the first million clicks come and go, and only a little over a month later had already served its second million!
2011 saw big growth for both GeoRiot and the iTunes Affiliate Program. First 15 new countries across Europe were added, then Mexico, Brazil, and nine programs in Latin America late in the year. This brought the total number programs to 45 and required an additional three sets unique parameters in order to maximize commissions internationally. By this time, GeoRiot had served over 75 million clicks and had expanded operations to include servers in US, Europe, and Asia/Pacific locations.
By February of 2012, we reached a milestone goal of 100 million clicks served, and hit our stride for introducing new features, including a brand new interface, integrated search links, better reporting, and a shiny new GeoRiot logo that we’re still really fond of.
2013 continued to prove to be a phenomenal year for GeoRiot as we crossed over the one, then a short nine months later, two billion clicks served in February, and November respectively! For those of you keeping score at home, that means GeoRiot’s took two years to get to two million, then another two to get to two billion clicks. Talk about explosive growth! In the same year, we also added support for Amazon’s affiliate program, completely revamped our dashboard piece by piece, and continued to add in the features that our audience rioted for.
2014 has started with a bang and a couple new team members to help make this the best year yet. We look forward to continuing the momentum and rolling out tools and services that we think will fundamentally change the world of affiliate marketing.
With that said, none of this would have been possible without our clients and we’d like to say thank you to every single one of them. You are what make our service run and we wouldn’t be here without you. Thanks a couple billion for keeping the lights on and for helping us change the industry. Here’s to another four years, and billions more clicks.
