2015 is upon us, and although we don’t have our hoverboards or time traveling DeLoreans, this year is shaping up to be monumental for GeoRiot. As we move into the new year and approach our 5th birthday this February, we wanted to take a look back at all of the incredible milestones that you helped us achieve in 2014!
From time to time, we’ll receive a question from a client that highlights a bigger problem or issue. When this happens, we’ll often turn our answer into a blog post in the hopes of better reaching others who may be running into the same question.
Today, we’re looking at the process of navigating the many affiliate programs within the Tradedoubler network.
Those familiar with Tradedoubler, know they manage several iTunes / App Store Affiliate Programs across Europe and Latin America. What you may not know is that there are 39 country-specific programs in total. Thirty-nine? That’s a lot of individual programs to apply for and get set up with.
While we generally encourage signing up for as many affiliate
programs as possible, Tradedoubler is the exception. This is due to something
Tradedoubler does called “crossboarders.”
After pushing GeoRiot.com 3.0 in January, we shifted our focus inward and began phase two of the renovation: rolling out the new GeoRiot dashboard. Within today’s release you’ll find updated support for your georiot.co links, new filters for your existing reports, and our new Performance Reports feature, a central stats page for all of your affiliate campaigns. Here, you can easily check the status, monitor the performance and receive optimization tips for each of your georiot.co links individually.
Here’s a quick look at some of the new features our updated dashboard now offers:
“The GeoRiot Boost” is an in-depth look at the four key metrics of your georiot.co links. To check the boost for any of your links, click “View Report” from any link found on your “Links” page. You’ll then be shown the Performance Report with all of the relevant metrics for that particular link.
- Total Traffic: Total number of clicks we’ve helped you serve for this link.
- Lifetime Reach: The number of different countries from which you saw clicks!
- Translated: This is the percent of clicks that would have resulted in an error message if we hadn’t translated the link for you!
- Affiliated: This is the percent of clicks that you were able to affiliate with your affiliate tracking parameters.
“Export It!” Are you a spreadsheet kinda person? We’ve got you covered. From the individual georiot.co stats pages you can export your clicks over time and by country to .CSV for slicing and dicing however you want.
“Filter Your Traffic” It’s now even easier to analyze your click traffic with the ability to filter any report by traffic source and advertiser (in preparation for our rollout of support for Amazon and their Associates program).
“GeoRiot Recommends” is a feature you’ll see a lot more of in future updates, but we’re excited to give you a sneak peak. Are you getting a lot of traffic from France but not set up to earn those commissions? We’re on it and we’ll let you know what our experts recommend in order to boost your revenue. You’ll find our optimization suggestions in the bottom left corner of Performance Report pages.
We’ll be the first to admit that our “GRID” based linking system was NOT the easiest to use, or understand.
Having to find the GRID value that matched the right traffic source in your dashboard, that was then associated with the country your link was based on, was not what you wanted to deal with after jumping through all the hoops of getting signed up and approved by the various affiliate networks.
Well, after today we hope to never have to say “GRID” again. We are on to something better, and much simpler to use — “TSID”.
While it doesn’t sound as cool as it’s predecessor the technology behind it is.
With the “Traffic Source ID” you simply reference the ID of your traffic source and leave the rest to us. We’ll parse out iTunes link, identify your assigned affiliate tracking parameters and rebuild the link and pass it along faster than ever.
This means that you’ll find all the link building tools at the traffic source level (instead of 45 options at the country/ affiliate program level) in the GeoRiot dashboard.
Of course, everything is backward compatible so your old links will continue to keep earning you international commissions.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
More info on the new TSID:
The Link Maker Tool is saying that my “Your affiliate network is: DGM (Partner ID: 1002)” and my links now end with “partnerId%3D1002.” Is that wrong?
Previously we needed to pass in the partnerId parameter to the Link Maker tool to build the proper GRID based links. Now, because we don’t pass in a partner Id value the Link Maker tool simply defaults to using DGM / partnerId=1002. This is expected and nothing to worry about. These links work perfectly well and, as always, we pass them on to the user built specifically for their country and store and the relevant affiliate program.
How do I define my “base country?”
Your base country is still defined as the country that the iTunes link is based on. For example:
US – http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/
UK – http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/
Australia – http://itunes.apple.com/au/artist/
Does this work for all types of links (Quick Build, Find / Replace, Search)?
Can I now use a link from a country that doesn’t have an affiliate program?
Yes! Links from China, Russia, India, etc. will now all work properly with the TSID system
What started out of curiosity quickly became a nightly GeoRiot ritual. Every evening, when the coding came to a natural break and the inbox took a breather, we’d apprehensively log into the various affiliate networks to check in on our own commissions. The process was always slow (waiting for reports to load) and tedious (converting multiple currencies and taking varying time zones into account).
It was on one particularly long night of slow-loading reports, that we got to talking.
You see, click trends and geographic distribution reports are important, but they only tell one part of the affiliate-linking story. The sales and commissions that result from those clicks are equally as important, if not more.
From day one, we’ve strived to be a company that challenges itself to continuously improve our service in order to provide clients with the very best tools and information available to maximize their international affiliate commissions. Being able to access and aggregate data from each of the affiliate networks in one central location is something we’ve been looking forward to doing for a long time – and we are eager to share it with you.
So without further ado, say hello to an updated dashboard chalk full of sleek and sexy reports! Say goodbye to the complications associated with logging into multiple dashboards, slow loading reports, different currencies, time zones, and date formats.
We’re proud to announce that GeoRiot now supports, in public beta, the ingestion, aggregation and reporting of your sales and commission data from LinkShare, TradeDoubler, DGM Performance and LinkShare Japan to provide you with a single, consolidated look at the metrics that matter to you.
“We’re very happy to see this feature,” said Arnold Kim, Co-Founder of TouchArcade and AppShopper. “It’s been something I’ve long wanted.”
With this push, your dashboard now includes reports and graphs on daily sales and commissions; daily and monthly commissions broken down by affiliate program; and pie / donut charts for commissions by program, affiliate network and tracking tag. Like all of our graphs, you can manipulate the results to define the time period, quickly zoom in and out, break down the reports to get the info you want, view the raw data, and dive into more granular data with tooltips.
To begin utilizing these additional reports, you’ll need to initiate an import of sales and commission data from your affiliates networks.. Simply log into the GeoRiot dashboard, click Account > Manage Affiliate Network Import Accounts, and follow the instructions we’ve provided for linking your GeoRiot account with each of the affiliate networks. After an import of your historical sales and commissions, we’ll queue up a daily import to ensure you always have up-to-date information easily available.
Oh, and while we were working on these new reports, we did some substantial back-end renovations to reduce load times for the dashboard. This means that all of your new data, charts and graphs will load even faster, which all goes back to our original goal of providing you with the best, most comprehensive and complete toolset available to help you maximize your affiliate marketing efforts.
Pretty cool, huh? We thought so too.
We hope you find these new reports useful and we can’t wait to hear what you think: firstname.lastname@example.org, @GeoRiotdotcom or facebook.com/GeoRiot.
