2015 is upon us, and although we don’t have our hoverboards or time traveling DeLoreans, this year is shaping up to be monumental for GeoRiot. As we move into the new year and approach our 5th birthday this February, we wanted to take a look back at all of the incredible milestones that you helped us achieve in 2014!
We’ll be the first to admit that our “GRID” based linking system was NOT the easiest to use, or understand.
Having to find the GRID value that matched the right traffic source in your dashboard, that was then associated with the country your link was based on, was not what you wanted to deal with after jumping through all the hoops of getting signed up and approved by the various affiliate networks.
Well, after today we hope to never have to say “GRID” again. We are on to something better, and much simpler to use — “TSID”.
While it doesn’t sound as cool as it’s predecessor the technology behind it is.
With the “Traffic Source ID” you simply reference the ID of your traffic source and leave the rest to us. We’ll parse out iTunes link, identify your assigned affiliate tracking parameters and rebuild the link and pass it along faster than ever.
This means that you’ll find all the link building tools at the traffic source level (instead of 45 options at the country/ affiliate program level) in the GeoRiot dashboard.
Of course, everything is backward compatible so your old links will continue to keep earning you international commissions.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
More info on the new TSID:
The Link Maker Tool is saying that my “Your affiliate network is: DGM (Partner ID: 1002)” and my links now end with “partnerId%3D1002.” Is that wrong?
Previously we needed to pass in the partnerId parameter to the Link Maker tool to build the proper GRID based links. Now, because we don’t pass in a partner Id value the Link Maker tool simply defaults to using DGM / partnerId=1002. This is expected and nothing to worry about. These links work perfectly well and, as always, we pass them on to the user built specifically for their country and store and the relevant affiliate program.
How do I define my “base country?”
Your base country is still defined as the country that the iTunes link is based on. For example:
US – http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/
UK – http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/
Australia – http://itunes.apple.com/au/artist/
Does this work for all types of links (Quick Build, Find / Replace, Search)?
Can I now use a link from a country that doesn’t have an affiliate program?
Yes! Links from China, Russia, India, etc. will now all work properly with the TSID system
In the past couple of weeks Apple has made huge strides in supporting pre-orders. What does this mean for affiliate program users? In addition to making pre-order content available in the affiliate tools, pre-order track or album purchases will now result in a commission – even if it’s more than three days until “Street Date.”
Supporting pre-orders has always been important to us (and required some crazy hackery in the past!). We believe artists and labels should be able to leverage the affiliate program for all of their iTunes store offerings. We’re excited about this improvement and the ability to now offer complete support by extending the benefits of our service to include global pre-order links!
At GeoRiot, we believe tracking and earning commissions are both important. We don’t see any reason why you should have to choose one over the other, which is why we’re stoked to announce that GeoRiot has teamed up with MobileAppTracking by HasOffers in a partnership that joins the two best-class services!
Historically, an app developer linking to their apps in the App Store, had two options with regards to leveraging its placement: enlist the help of a tracking service to capture valuable conversion metrics, or affiliate the link to create a additional revenue. But you couldn’t easily do both.
By itself, the GeoRiot service provides app developers the ability to leverage each of the regional iTunes / App Store Affiliate Programs simultaneously to maximize revenue from an activity they are already doing – linking to their products in the App Store.
Now with MobileAppTracking integration, when the audience interacts with an advertisement, they are seamlessly redirected though the MobileAppTracking platform for attribution. The platform then redirects the user through to GeoRiot where our coding ninjary (yeah, we just made that word up) goes to work building and affiliating a local link for that user, based on their country. The user is then sent on their merry way without disruption, faster than the blink of an eye!
By joining forces with the folks at HasOffers, we’re combining their top-notch tracking capabilities with our industry-leading iTunes / App Store affiliate platform. The result is two world-class services working in tandem to offer you insightful metrics and affiliate commissions for every click.
“Keep moving forward. Keep innovating. If it doesn’t work, move on. Fail quickly. Whatever you’re going to do – just keep going…”
Once upon a time, GeoRiot was just a glimmer in Co-Founder / CEO Jesse Lakes’ eyes. A whitewater raft guide in Colorado by day, he lead thousands down the river – and never lost one! And as an entrepreneur at heart, he’d turn back to his laptop at night and continue work on his idea of the moment.
It was one of these projects, a book he wrote outlining the iTunes Affiliate Program, which caught the eye of the iTunes Marketing team. Lakes was quickly recruited by Apple for his expertise and traded in his life jacket and side projects for his first ever cubicle, commute, and a regular paycheck.
Two years later, he passed on his dream gig as the Global Product Manager of Apple’s iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store Affiliate Program to pursue an idea that wouldn’t go away.
Recently, Jesse was invited to inspire budding entrepreneurs at one of IdeaMensch’s national IM48 events. Watch as he talks about bringing life to ideas, following your gut, and the evolution of ideas.
