Everyone loves the idea of passive income, and getting paid to immerse yourself in something you love doing is also a plus. But how do people accomplish this? Welcome to the world of niche site ideas and affiliate marketing.

What is a niche site, you may ask?

Niche (adjective) – a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service.

A niche site is simply a site that highlights a specific corner of the market. This is how you can make money through your passions. So if you are fishing, rock climbing, knitting, or whatever enthusiast that wants to monetize your passion, keep reading!

How Do I Get Paid?

Niche sites can be powered by affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is when a creator’s product recommendation results in a sale and the company that they direct their audience to will compensate them for their efforts.

Have you ever clicked on a link to a product in a YouTube description? That is often an affiliate link, and if you purchase the item on the other end of the link the person who posted the link receives a commission.

On a blog, you can embed affiliate links to point people to the exact product you are recommending in a blog post or piece of content. This will earn you commissions and help your audience! A great place to start is the Amazon Associates Program.

This is because Amazon has everything, so it is easy to find products and link to them. Additionally, they have 28 different region-specific storefronts meaning you can make money from around the world!

As you become more immersed in your niche, you can link to more affiliate programs that might have better commission rates. For starters, here is a guide to Amazon’s commission structure.

Earn More and Grow Your Audience

An affiliate marketing pro tip is to use Geniuslink. Not only does Geniuslink automatically check your link health to make sure the products you are suggesting are still in stock, but it also helps you earn from multiple countries through the power of localization. Localization ensures that your international audience can buy the products you are suggesting.

Finally, when you are ready to start earning commissions from other affiliate programs, we have a helpful tool called Choice Pages to help you out. It’s the ultimate affiliate hack, don’t believe us? Listen to our clients!

We also have a WordPress plugin to automatically localize all your Amazon affiliate links on your blog so you can start earning more without the hassle.

Alright, enough about how awesome Geniuslink is, we can all agree that affiliate marketing is how you get paid for your passion, but why is a niche important? There are a couple of reasons for this.

Why Having a Niche is Important

First, and most importantly, is interest and community. Do you have a hobby that you feel like few people enjoy, so when you meet someone who also has this hobby it’s an instant connection?

My example of this is long-distance running. I am one of those crazy people who enjoys running for hours, and whenever I meet a fellow runner we instantly connect about what kinds of runs we do, our training style, and our favorite gear.

Because of this, I can very easily spend hours researching everything I could possibly need to know about running as a niche, and I will buy the gear that trusted sites recommend.

Additionally, the niche site factor can help with your site’s SEO.

Fewer people will be trying to rank for keywords in your niche, making it easier for you to do so.

This is where having a passion for your niche comes in because then you can target exactly what people are looking for. For example, my most recent search is “should I switch from New Balance to Hoka One One?”

So if a niche running site was to convince me to switch, then I would probably buy from their site, earning them a commission for the Hoka’s I buy from Amazon.

So it’s settled, niche sites can be a highly lucrative way to make money from your passion.

But I’ll do you one better, I’ve compiled this list of site ideas that I think would be a great place to start making content. So take a look and see if any of them fit you and your passions!

Niche Site Ideas

1/ Crocheting

crocheting

Crocheting and stitching aren’t just your Grandma’s pastime anymore. This hobby is on fire right now with the influence of TikTok, and there is a wide range of skill levels. If you find this to be your hobby, this niche site idea would be a great place to start.

According to Ahrefs, there are 100k searches of “how to crochet” per month. Only half of these searches are coming from the United States, so if you are not using Geniuslink on your website you could be missing out on half of your commissions.

2/ Gluten/Lactose-Free Cooking

Many dietarily challenged people constantly rely on the trustworthy reviews of gluten free substitutes and recipes. The downside is that you are linking to food instead of items but Amazon will still pay you a 1% commission for that.

According to Ahrefs, there are 35K searches for “gluten free recipes” and 5.3k for “dairy free recipes.”

3/ Keto Diet/Nutrition

We all know someone who has tried Keto, similarly to the previous niche site idea, there is demand for recipes and reviews for staple foods.

According to Ahrefs, there are 24k monthly searches for “easy keto recipes.”

4/ Sustainable Living

This one is huge. So many people are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint, but don’t know where to start. From composting tips to sustainable brands, there is so much content to be made here, and you can niche down from within this very easily.

According to Ahrefs, there are 11k searches for “sustainable living” monthly. Of those 11k searches, only 3.9k come from the USA, so it would be wise to utilize Geniuslink for this niche.

5/ Organization

Funny enough, organization is another blooming niche. Tidying up with Marie Kondo was just the beginning, people want pantry, desk, refrigerator organization tips, and layouts. This can go hand in hand with interior design as well.

“Kitchen organization” has 17k monthly searches, “garage storage” has 26k monthly searches, and “pantry organization” has 31k according to Ahrefs.

6/ Pet Equipment

Who didn’t get a COVID pet who now has separation anxiety? People want help with their pets, and this is a great way to connect an in-tune audience with training gear to help pets thrive.

However, according to Ahrefs, this is extremely hard to rank for due to the number of sites trying to rank for the keyword category.

According to Ahrefs, there are 89k searches for “dog training” every month.

7/Snowboard/Ski Review

This is also a rising genre on YouTube. For such a popular pastime, there are not many resources for Snowboarding/Skiing. Who wouldn’t want to get paid to pass on their knowledge of the mountain? Gear suggestions, fashion, and film gear can all be monetized here.

According to Ahrefs, there are 7.2k monthly searches for “snowboard gear” and 8.1k monthly searches for “ski gear.”

8/ Haircare

More than ever, people are taking care of their hair. People think twice before frying their hair with flat irons and dye.

Different shampoos, hair masks, and tools have gone into the spotlight. The cool part about this kind of site is that you can niche down into what works best for your hair. For example, I have very thin fine hair, but one of my best friends has wavy curly hair – so we will probably be looking for different advice.

There are 6.5k monthly searches for “hair care” according to Ahrefs. Only 20% of this traffic is from the USA, so if you are not using Geniuslink on your website you could be missing out on 80% of commissions.

9/ PC Gaming

This is a pretty saturated niche, but if it is your passion, don’t doubt your ability to have a useful voice. PC builds are also incredibly lucrative to affiliate marketers due to their pricy parts.

There are 282k monthly searches for “PC gaming” according to Ahrefs.

10/ Home Workout

An interesting development from covid is an increased interest in working out from home. Gym setups are popular and some people need guidance. Anywhere from clothing recommendations to squat rack setups can be monetized.

There are 1.4k monthly searches for “home gym setup” according to Ahrefs.

11/ Running

As I mentioned in the intro, there are many crazy people (including myself) that consider running to be fun! Tapping into the nutrition and gear side of running with this site would be wise, shoe reviews are always welcome. There is a lot of interest in this niche, the downside being it is fairly saturated.

There are 577k monthly searches for “running shoes” according to Ahrefs.

12/ Work From Home Office

Work from home has taken the world by storm, more than ever, workers are looking for practical ways to set up their space. From design, organization, and functionality there is definite interest in this niche.

13/ 3D Printing

3D printing just keeps getting better, printers are getting faster and more advanced every day. Whether it’s a hobby or a career, 3D printing is an excellent outlet for many.

14/ Coffee Roasting

Homegrounds

Coffee is an art and a science that escapes many, but there is a community of those who live for it. From roasting to brewing to latte art, to different regions of the world, this niche has endless amounts of content to be made.

According to Ahrefs “coffee roasting” receives 4.2k monthly searches.

15/ Wine Tasting

The wine community is another highly engaged one. Since this niche is so popular it is fairly saturated, but with the right amount of diligence, your site can still become one of the best.

“Wine tasting” gets 25k monthly searches according to Ahrefs.

16/ Homebrewing

In the same way, home brewing beer has become more popular. Homebrewing requires a knowledge of chemistry and beer, so you better know your stuff. But this niche still has a ton of room to grow.

According to Ahrefs “home brewing” receives 8.3k monthly searches. 25% of this traffic comes from the UK and 7% comes from Australia, so having Geniuslink on your site is a must.

17/ Gunsmithing

This niche has a loyal community following it. Whether it be hunting or personal security, there seems to be a lot of interest in this topic. However, affiliate links for this may be hard to find, make sure to research how to monetize before beginning.

According to Ahrefs “gunsmithing” receives 800 monthly searches.

18/ Leatherwork

This old art is also making a comeback. There is a lot of knowledge to share here and it is still an unsaturated topic. The downside is once again monetization since there are few actual products involved.

There are 11k monthly searches for “leatherwork” monthly.

19/ Magic Tricks

Almost every magic trick requires some kind of expertise or type of equipment, making this niche easy to monetize. However, this is a competitive niche site idea so it will take time to build your website.

According to Ahrefs, there are 46k monthly searches for “magic tricks.” 21% of this traffic is from India, so it would be wise to have Geniuslink’s free WordPress plugin on your website to ensure those commissions are not lost.

20/ Woodworking

Woodworking is another old art that is making a resurgence. Anywhere from crafting, carving, or treating wood requires materials that can be found on Amazon. This niche can seem saturated, but by niching down, you can find success.

Ahrefs reports that there are 5.1k monthly searches for “woodburning” and 84k searches for “woodworking.” However, there is a catch: only 55% of these searches are from the USA, so it is crucial to use Geniuslink to get the other 45% of traffic’s commissions.

21/ Do It Yourself Projects

Another product of people staying home due to COVID is an uptake in DIY projects. This is a very competitive niche, especially because of TikTok, to stand out, you will most likely have to niche down from within this genre. DIY bathroom cabinets, DIY fake marble, and DIY deck builds are great places to start.

There are 48k monthly searches for “DIY projects” and you will need about 141 backlinks to rank in the top 10 on Google search, but “DIY bathroom cabinets” see fewer searches but you only need about 21 backlinks to rank.

22/ House Flipping

House flipping is when a house is bought at a low price, improved, and then sold at a much higher price because of the improvements. This is related to the DIY niche but there is so much more to blog about than small projects.

“How to flip a house for the first time” only see’s 250 searches per month globally, making it a great place to start considering the parent topic of “house flipping” see’s 6.6k monthly searches.

23/ Home Repair

Another practical niche site idea is home repair. This is less ‘sexy’ of a topic but it will always be in demand. Personally, I’ve probably googled “how to fix XYZ” a million times. This is where you can niche down to your expertise. Know how to plumb? Make the guide to fixing certain things on a sink. The same goes for other things around the house (and in general!)

There are 8.4k monthly searches for “home repair” coming from countries all over the world.

24/ Affordable Home Decor

This is obviously easy to monetize and highly sought after. However, because of this, it is fairly saturated, but with some creative SEO you can still stand out.

According to Ahrefs, there are 1.6k monthly searches for “affordable home decor.” Make sure that you are not missing out on 25% of traffic for this search by using Geniuslink’s free plugin on your blog.

25/ Van Life

More and more people are ditching the typical apartment dwelling and starting to live out of converted sprinter vans. While this lifestyle isn’t for everyone, there is huge interest in it. While it is rapidly growing, you can still get in on the action. Because of the very nature of van life, this community loves “hacks” to save space and function since they are so limited.

“Sprinter conversion” gets 1.8k monthly searches according to Ahrefs.

26/ Tiny Houses

This is another niche on the rise. Tiny houses, like van life, are limited by space so the community is usually on the hunt for the best products to save space and function. However, this niche is MUCH more saturated than van life is. Because of this, a savvy SEO/content strategy is in order. But this niche would be incredibly easy to monetize.

“How to build a tiny house” gets 4.8k searches monthly and “Ikea tiny house” sees about 11k searches per month.

This blog from The Tiny Life is a great example of monetizing this niche site idea.

27/ Gardening

This is a niche that has a lot of interest, without saturation. People are looking for guidance and the Home Depot garden experts are a drive away. This site requires knowledge of plants and tools and would be easy to monetize.

According to Ahrefs, “gardening essentials” is searched for 200 times a month, and you would only need about 11 backlinks to rank on the front page.

28/ Home Aquarium

Home aquariums are a great way to have a few low-maintenance pets. But, setting up the aquarium can be challenging due to the fact you’re setting up an entire ecosystem. Because of this, many people are looking for guidance.

“Aquarium setup” receives 2.1k monthly searches according to Ahrefs.

29/ Kitchen Essentials

This is for the chefs out there that love to improve the function of their kitchen. There are seemingly endless new tools to revolutionize the kitchen, and someone needs to test them. This would be a great topic for a blog and could double-dip into the recipes niche easily. Currently, the commissions for pantry items on Amazon are 3% and grocery is 1%.

According to Ahrefs, “kitchen essentials” is searched for 13k times monthly, and “kitchen essentials checklist” is searched for 250 times monthly. 22% of searches for “kitchen essentials” come from the UK and India so to ensure you are not missing out on that traffic, using Geniuslink to localize that traffic is a must.

30/ Man Cave Setup

This is a fun niche that is not yet saturated. Finding cool pieces to complete a mancave would not only make a great site but perhaps a YouTube channel as well.

“Man cave” is searched for 64k times globally and “man cave setup” is only searched for 60 times. It would only take 16 backlinks to rank for this page.

31/ She Shed Setup

Another space on the rise is the She Shed. This is the female form for the man cave- since we all need space. It is a pretty new niche, so there are a lot of opportunities, especially on TikTok or for setup guides.

According to Ahrefs, “she shed” gets 41k monthly global searches, and “she shed ideas inside” is very easy to rank for, only requiring 11 backlinks.

32/ Bird Supplies

Similar to how many people got COVID dogs, some got COVID birds! This community is in-tune with what their birds need, and what is the best possible equipment.

“Bird supplies” is searched for 2.5k times monthly and there are many similar keyword strings that would not be difficult to rank for.

33/ Pet Snakes

As a former snake owner myself, I can tell you that the snake-owning community is a tight one. Everyone is researching the best ways to care for their snakes and mimic their natural habitat. On top of that, there is a large amount of interest and a limited amount of information sources in this niche. Making it highly lucrative without the barriers to entry.

According to Ahrefs, “snake terrarium” is searched for 4k times monthly, and to rank on the first page of google you would only need 6 backlinks.

34/ Bow Hunting

This niche site idea has a lot of interest, but there is a lot of competition. Just to rank on the first page, you need about 51 backlinks. However, most gear is fairly expensive so the work can be done.

“Bow Hunting” gets 11K searches monthly around the world and “bow hunting gear” gets 450.

35/ Road Tripping/Car Camping

This is different from van life because it is less about living in the outdoors, but making a weekend in the outdoors more comfortable. This niche has widespread popularity and booms in the summertime.

According to Ahrefs, “car camping hacks” get 150 searches monthly, and “road tripping” gets 2k searches.

36/ Backpacking

This is different from car camping because well, you’re living out of a backpack instead of a car- so light space-saving gear is highly sought after. There is nothing worse than carrying too heavy of gear for 15 miles, so reviews are valuable.

“Backpacking” gets 38k monthly searches globally and “best backpacking gear” get’s 800 monthly searches. This also is searched widely by global audiences. To make sure you are accommodating for all of those audiences, Geniuslink ensures they are routed to an Amazon storefront that speaks the correct language and uses the correct currency!

37/ Fly Fishing

Much like bow hunting and fly fishing has a widespread audience. There are also opportunities to niche down within this topic. Fly tying, different rods, and gear can all be monetized. However, this is a fairly saturated niche site idea, so be warned.

According to Ahrefs, “fly fishing” is searched for 60k times monthly, and “fly tying” is searched for 10k times.

38/ Golf

Golf is a classic sport few seem to master. Expertise balls and clubs to buy could be a great value add for those trying to get started. What clubs work for what, and how different kinds of balls fly are all topics to be covered.

Luckily, “getting started with golf” only sees 20 monthly searches, as “golf” is our hardest niche so far, receiving 1 Million monthly searches.

39/ Rock Climbing

This niche is popular among many, and requires quite a bit of gear and knowledge, making it easy to monetize. Its popularity, however, has made it rather saturated of a niche. Ahrefs estimates that you’ll need 247 backlinks to your site to rank in the top 10.

“Rock climbing” is searched for 73k times monthly and “rock climbing shoes” are searched for 10k times.

40/ Surfing

There is a ton to write about in this niche. There is river surfing, wake surfing, and surfing at the beach. There is a lot of interest along with high-cost items to gain commissions on. Wake surfing is an up-and-coming sport, and there is not a lot of guidance on boards and materials to buy- making it a big opportunity.

According to Ahrefs, there are 6.7k monthly searches for “wake surfing” and you would only need about 13 backlinks to your blog to rank on the first page of google search. This is another niche that saw traffic from not only the United States but countries like Australia as well! To ensure you don’t lose out on commissions, use Geniuslink to route your international traffic to the correct storefront for their region.

41/ Windsurfing

Windsurfing is separate from the surfing niche because it requires a completely different set of materials and knowledge. Once again, this niche site idea would have great potential to be high earning, however, it should be noted that it is fairly saturated.

There are 52k monthly searches for “windsurfing”, according to Ahrefs.

42/ Bullet journaling

This niche is gaining popularity again, especially among the younger generation. Etsy shops are opening left and right for custom bullet journals, but many want to customize their journal for themselves. With this niche on the rise, it is a great time to get in.

“Bullet journaling for beginners” sees 250 monthly clicks, while the term “bullet journaling” gets 20k monthly searches, indicating that there is significant interest in this information. This is another niche site idea that sees a fair bit of international traffic. Make sure your blog is using Geniuslink’s free plugin to route your traffic to the correct storefront for their region.

43/ Lens Guide

Photography as a whole is a beast of a niche, but minus all of the fancy cameras and lighting, there is a lot of confusion around buying the right lens. Lenses are also a high-ticket item, making your potential earnings pretty spectacular.

According to Ahrefs, “what lens should I buy” only gets 50 monthly searches, but “camera lens” receives 52k searches and is not terribly hard to rank for on Google.

44/ Boat Buying Guide

This niche site idea is surprisingly underserved, especially with the earning potential it has. Sponsorships and affiliate links could give this page the potential to make some serious commissions. Jim Harmer of Income School “made a blog about boating in August 2014. The site sold in September 2016 for $74,000.” This is just proof of how lucrative this niche site idea is.

There were only 90 monthly searches for “what boat should I buy” and you would only need 9 backlinks to rank in the top 10 on Google.

45/ Sound Mixing

Sound mixing is a hobby to many musicians, and getting started can be quite daunting. A niche site for sound mixing would be the perfect way to earn quite a bit from affiliate links.

“Sound Mixing” is searched for 2.4k times monthly and only requires 23 backlinks to rank in the top 10 on Google.

46/ Baby Gear

As long as people have babies, there will always be a demand for baby gear.

I use gear broadly because this niche can range from clothes to toys, to equipment. New parents want nothing but the best for their child and are willing to put in the research for it!

There are also many different schools of thought, such as Montessori, on how to have a baby interact with the world.

According to Ahrefs “baby toys” are searched for 95k times monthly, and “Montessori baby toys” are searched for 700 times monthly.

47/ Grilling

This is a favorite pastime of many who enjoy the outdoors. Traeger, a company known for its elite smokers, has taken grilling to the affiliate marketing work and sparked a whole new community of passionate grillers. Seeing as there is a lot of interest in this niche, you may find that there is a good amount of competition over spots on the front page of Google.

“Grilling” is searched for 23k times monthly on Google, and “grilling tools’ ‘ is searched for 2.2k times monthly but is still relatively easy to rank for. Grilling is not only an American pastime, but an international one as well! Not only can you niche down to the type of grilling you are doing, but you can capture international commissions in this niche using Geniuslink.

48/ Wedding Planning

Much like baby gear, so as long as there are people getting married, there will be demand for wedding sites. This can range anywhere from DIY to designer hacks. Couples are always looking for guidance on their big day so there is definitely interest in researching this niche.

“Wedding checklist” is searched for 27k times monthly, and “wedding hacks” receives 200 monthly searches and is an easy keyword to rank for.

49/ Budgeting

Funny enough, for a site dedicated to helping people save money, you can make quite a bit too! There are tons of personal finance tools to link to and monetize with, and an email list is not a bad place to start. Unfortunately, this niche site idea is EXTREMELY saturated.

“Budgeting tips” receives 4.5k monthly searches, and “budgeting” comes in at a whopping 1000k. Additionally, to rank on the front page you will need about 77 backlinks.

50/ Gift ideas for XYZ

Last but not least, we have the gift guide. Who hasn’t googled “gift ideas for grandma” or something of the sort? This is so easy to monetize with Amazon Associates, and it’s an evergreen topic, there will always be grandmas, boyfriends, girlfriends, dads, and clueless people last-minute shopping!

According to Ahrefs, “gifts for grandma” is searched for 27k times monthly, and only needs 20 backlinks to rank. This niche gets 4.5k of its clicks from the UK so make sure you are earning all commissions possible with Geniuslink’s localization feature.

Examples of Niche Site Ideas

The following are some niche site examples that have caught our attention. Some are even from clients of ours!

GrillGuru

We interviewed James Beckley of GrillGuru, his advice to new niche bloggers was

“Don’t be afraid of trying. It’s not something you can try once and easily forget – it’s a long-time process that is both fun and complicated. So at the beginning failures and errors are unavoidable, just deal with it and go on.”

GrillGuru has gone on to become an important player in its niche through hard work and focused writing.

Fitness Savy

This site was founded by Robin Young, it’s a price comparison site in the UK and US for supplements, fitness equipment, and sportswear. He started affiliate marketing in 2017.

“It was by chance, as I was looking to compare supplement prices and find deals and realized that a suitable platform did not exist.”

This is the perfect example of timing a niche right, paying attention to where the need for information is can lead to great profit.

Home Grounds

We interviewed this site’s founder, Alex Azoury, about his affiliate journey.

“I didn’t know what affiliate marketing was initially because my only goal was to deliver quality content to fellow coffee enthusiasts. However, the instant I learned I can monetize what I’m doing was a light bulb moment that I should do it full-time.”

Another important note is to write about something that genuinely gets you excited. Most niches have followings that can see through a phony. Alex started with a passion that ended up paying him.

K9ofMine

Meg Marrs of K9ofMine is no stranger to the affiliate world. On her site, she gives dog training advice and links to various toys and treats. She owns multiple sites and advises:

“I would say don’t get into affiliate marketing if you’re looking to try to make a quick and easy buck. It doesn’t exist! Affiliate marketing is like any other kind of marketing – to do it well takes time and effort. It’s incredibly fun work, but it’s not a magic button.”

Hopefully, all of these niche site ideas and examples will be helpful on your journey to starting your niche site. Here at Geniuslink, we would love to support you and your monetization in whatever way we can. Feel free to connect our free WordPress plugin to help localize your Amazon links when you get started.
