Overview
Etsy was founded in 2005 by a trio of software developers in New York who called themselves IOspace. They built Etsy over two months after spending time getting to know the community of getcrafty.com, which they had been contracted to redesign. In 2013, Etsy’s CEO at the time Chad Dickerson famously said. “At the end of every transaction, you get something real from a real person. There is an existential satisfaction to that.” and called Etsy “a platform that provides meaning to people, and an opportunity to validate their art, their craft”. Lovely stuff!
Etsy.com snags the 4th spot in the Marketplace subcategory of Ecom and Shopping, according to SimilarWeb. They hold a global rank of 70th, and a country rank of 31st for the US. Not too shabby!

Commission Rates and Cookie Windows
Etsy affiliate links will earn you 4% commission across the board. Amazon’s own rate for items sold in the ‘handmade’ category is higher, at 5%. Based on the commission rate alone, you could be earning more from Amazon links.
However, Etsy truly takes the wedding cake when it comes to the length of their affiliate cookie window. You can earn commission from Etsy affiliate links up to 30 days after the click takes place. Amazon’s cookie window is locked in at just 24 hours, making Etsy the far and away winner in this category.
To give you an idea of what to expect out of your Etsy affiliate links, Sovrn//Commerce (fka VigLink) reports an average commission rate of 4.99%, an average conversion rate of 1.69%, and an average basket size of $29.74.
